As we talked last week about getting your strum down, it feeds right into this week’s POWER CHORD lesson: Moving it around, and taking that power with you everywhere you go (and now in three easy little steps!). BOOM is right. Let’s do this. I need to be taking power with me, everywhere I go!
Aren’t our minds funny things? We can so easily feel strong and like we can take over the world one second, and then it shatters and we are like children in the next second, feeling small and, dare I say, weak? When I play guitar it’s exactly the same. I can simply not care at home, I can blast my guitar around my kids, and laugh, and have a good time; but then I can get on stage and panic can threaten to take over. I can worry in the moment about anything- about the tone, the sound, or even my own ability (or lack thereof). It all saps my power. I have to learn to be able to summon what I want to feel in any given moment.
And that’s what our POWER CHORD lesson is all about for our fourth installment of the series. It’s about taking what you know you are capable of and moving it around with ease and strength. Check this out:
Taking POWER with me, everywhere I go, in 3 easy steps:
- Note a moment in the morning (or create one!) when you are feeling powerful. Memorize that. Think through it three times in your head. Note how your mind is set and how you physically feel. Breathe into it.
- Set three alerts on your phone for today. Have them say something to the effect of “YOU ARE A POWERFUL BADASS.”
- When the alert goes off, summon what you memorized in #1. Put it in the moment you are in, right then! Take a deep breath and breathe into it, just like before. Recite your reminder.
As we move forward though our days, summoning this feeling will become easier and easier, until it’s second nature. Our power won’t be thrown for a loop just because we are near someone we have struggles with or because we had stepped into the spotlight. We can call on it, and it will be there.
