Everyone is thinking pink lately. But how to think pink and keep it rocking-looking? That is the question! We don’t wanna get too sweet…and this isn’t 2001, either. So how to update the pink? Here are a few #RockYourStyle ideas:
Pink hair is so two-thousand-and-LATE to me. So if you are thinking going hair-pink, I’d suggest a very icy pastel, but ONLY if your hair can handle it. Don’t venture into Kelly Ripa territory. And don’t ruin your hair if you don’t have to!
Next, let’s talk look. I have to mix anything sweet (read: pink, pastel, or lace) with something that toughens it up or dirties it up a bit. This can be as simple as your makeup. With a pink dress or pink top with jeans, consider soft makeup overall with a lip lined in purple or black kohl with a pink fill-in. Experiment with the ombre lip! You can always wipe it off if you hate it! Or resort to the smoky, lined eye. Always a good save-all.
Some other of my fave pinks for lips? Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Backstage Bambi and Rimix’s Vinyl Lip Gloss in Loaded are my current faves. The Kat Von D is a super-bright pop which is very fun as we look toward summer….or anytime, really- who am I kidding? Rihanna would do it, and so can you.
As far as clothing goes, of course it’s all about how you wear it. The mix is key. Check out my girl Nini Nguyen for what she does with- well, everything. Here she is in her pink pullover, which would translate now to a rad little black or brown lace-up sandal, round shades (I have these ones from Sunday Somewhere in gold, and I get compliments EVERYWHERE), and a rocking lightweight pink top (snatch up this one I found on ebay!) with shredded jeans for a great around-town day look.
If you’re wondering about other styling options, just go here to Nasty Gal and search “pink”. Or check out Kendall + Kylie’s lookbook, which I absolutely love (yes, I like their style. There, I said it.) Scads of ideas on modern takes on pink!
In summary: don’t be afraid of looking too twee. Remember that it’s all in that mix and choosing silhouettes that you’re comfortable in, but adding in a risk or two along the way. Plus, the massive amount of pink-shade color options are your friend. Add in a black lace bra underneath (this one is my everyday), a collar necklace and a chain, and you’re good to go! Happy pinking!
