As DJ Khaled says, there can be lots of keys to a thing. So while there certainly may be many keys to manifestation, there’s one we will explore today:
Acting Living AS IF.
AS IF means already being, and feeling, and, essentially, living the part. As if “it” (the dream, that is) is already true and a simple fact. Once I heard a story about Madonna. She was going to be performing one of her very first shows in New York City, before she had ever had a hit or had been on the radio. She was to perform at a club, and when she arrived, they say she came in as if she had an entire entourage with her. They were struck by the way she was and the way she behaved- they said they couldn’t believe it, actually. She was just some girl, but she rolled in and presented herself as if she was a star.
And a short time later, on her first American Bandstand performance, what did she tell Dick Clark when he asked her what her dream was? “To rule the world,” Madonna nonchalantly replied. Like, isn’t that what everyone wants? Duh, Dick.
I have decided that, from now on, I am going to act AS IF. Will you join me? Think today: what are your dreams? Dig deep. Deeper than money or followers or fame. Dig down to what the true, real goals are, beneath the surface items that are simply consequences of the true THING. Here are three simple ways to start acting- wait! I mean living- as if it’s already reality.
Three simple tricks to living AS IF:
1. Doubt? Not an option. It’s just not. I remember years ago chatting with a friend, and we were talking about eating healthily. She remarked that when she had been in better shape, she had been living in NYC and that eating fast food just “wasn’t an option,” as she put it. So today, we take doubt out as an option. It’s simply not on the menu. If it creeps in, just remember: “Oh yeah, I forgot! That’s not an option.”
2. Say it out loud. Just like Madonna did. There was absolutely ZERO pussyfooting around outta her. She didn’t care what anyone thought of that- and honestly, it probably sounded pretty ridiculous back then. But rule she did. Say what you will about Madge, but there’s no denying that she a queen, yo.
3. Spend a few moments actually feeling it…and then don’t stop. Close your eyes and set your handy phone timer for three minutes. Imagine living this; imagine it completely true. Breathe and feel. Maybe you can feel how you carry yourself differently. Maybe you can palpably feel the confidence that arises from this new reality. Then, when the phone timer goes off, don’t stop. That’s right. Keep it up, for as long as you can. Just keep living it. Not pretending. You just ARE. This is your living.
Implement these today and see what happens. You know, just like Madonna did. There was never doubt. It wasn’t an option for her, and it isn’t for us, either. As if? As it is, baby!
