Tis the season to be merry, right? Well, after the election, and the tone of our country, I don’t feel very festive. As a matter of fact, I feel downright pissy and the thought of entertaining family members that have been complete lunatics about this election has me wanting to be the Grinch! Any ideas on how to lighten my mood?
Grinch for Realz
Oh honey, I feel your pain! I am literally numbing myself with vodka. True story! Hah! How about joining me with a lovely Cranberry Moscow Mule to kick off the season? Cheers!
Families can be so crazy, can’t they? Everyone has that one cousin, or brother, or… let’s put it out there… PARENT(S) that is/are quite simply put: NUTS! I get it, and I think everyone gets it, although the reality is that those relatives probably think the same about you.
Let’s put this into perspective. This election has been so divisive on so many levels that it’s affected almost every area of our lives. We shouldn’t let it. I say, make a standing rule not to discuss politics at the family get-togethers in order to avoid stress, anxiety and anger. We all know what everyone’s opinion is, and it’s not going to change. So just stay off topic and drink more vodka! That said, there will always be instigators. Make it clear in advance that no one is welcome in the fun if they are going to rile people up and start bringing the heat in a way that’s not edible (or drinkable…just look at this hot spiced wine cocktail!).
Family is family, and though you may not like them, you do love them. They’re important, and you can survive the holiday! Bring out old photo albums; play dominos, cards, or board games; take walks. Do any other things, and try to make it as happy an occasion as possible. I know it’s hard. Another Cranberry Moscow Mule, please.
Best wishes for a successful holiday season!
