I have a serious case of the post-holiday blues. It could be because everything has slowed down, the house is a wreck or because my pants won’t button. It could be all three, who knows? But, I am really down and need some help turning my frown upside down.
The Smiths have nothing on me
Oh, darling! I completely understand. I myself have been feeling quite blue after the New Year, and to be honest, it’s been much worse this year. I know it should be dry January, but I’m not keen on detoxes or depriving myself. Gives me even less to look forward to, so….
Cheers with a bright pineapple vodka martini!
For a while now you have probably been decorating, shopping, cooking, hosting, cleaning, busy busy BUSY all of the time!! For most everyone, the entire month immediately after Thanksgiving is a total blur. “Did the kids like their Christmas?” “OMG, what did I say at the company Christmas party?” “Sure, I’ll have another cocktail, sausage ball, and hangover!”
It’s a flurry of parties and dressing up. Having friends over and eating luxurious meals. It’s a smorgasbord of invitations, cookies and Kahlua on weekday mornings. And now it’s all over. There are no parties and no invitations and no shopping and no anticipation. All there is as proof of your good time is an enormous muffin top and utter and complete exhaustion.
My advice is to get back into the routine for a bit. Let your body and liver adjust *somewhat* (another slug off my martini) and start getting excited and planning for the next season on the horizon. You always have to have something to look forward to! Spring is coming soon! Maybe it’s time to set some different goals? Goals that can keep you busy and bring great satisfaction. Personally, I like to purge. Cleaning out all of the crap that I have accumulated over the last year is such a huge relief and release for me. It feels almost as good as 25 tipsy Christmas days! Almost.
Soon you’ll get out of your funk. It usually doesn’t take more than 2 weeks. Plan some dinners out with friends, and maybe start looking into a summer getaway. I don’t know what works for you, but start to shift your focus to the future. Because you know what, Old St Nick will be here sooner than your next martini is half way gone! Time flies when you’re having fun, my love.
